Our Govermental ministers ought be ashamed of themselves.

Why is an ambassador doing the job that should have been done by our Govermental ministers ,to do the Petaling street walkabout and calm down the tense communal relations .
Not any single strong statement by any of our Govermental ministers against the so blatant and public expression of intent to stir anti-communal relations was even made...

They should be ashamed of themselves if it takes an ambassador-a foreigner- to lead the way to show concern by a simple act of a walkabout and issuing statements in guise of good relations..

As if they don't know their jobs to safeguard the entrenched constitutional charter safeguarding all communities..

Btw Ambassador Huang Huikang's visit to Petaling Street last Friday, saying
China would not sit idly by if its interests are affected.
(Noone seem to have latched on to this remark.and pondered more on it!).
And also it seemed to have overshadowed the US issued alert of a potential terror threat in Jln Alor..Not much coverage there.
(Personally,i do find the timing of the alert somewhat odd!)

Just wondering how it is seen as China meddling or Interferring in domestic affairs
That usually means a foreign diplomat condemning policies or actions by  a local government.

But when its Malaysia's very own  policy to reject racism and extremism or ethnocentrism......
Should it not  therefore,be seen as  China voicing out its support of the official Malaysian policy and actually help Malaysia promote those values..

As our Govermental ministers stay put in their high bigoted airs and didn't even whimper any rebuke to the likes of  Jamal and Ali Tinju.as they ran riot with their seditious statements.

But now crawling out from their respective cracks and crannies ,like bitten by fireants, to protest a goodwill gesture -when the ambassador was  tactfully doing their jobs for them..

(Although i do not fully agree with the view but does not mean i do not subscribe to some salient points either. The thought provoking insights highlighted in bold)

China’s Unconventional Diplomacy

by Dato’ Dennis Ignatius
COMMENT Wisma Putra is right to summon Ambassador Huang Huikang of China to protest his unwarranted interference in our domestic affairs. Huang’s symbolically-charged visit to Petaling Street, in the heart of Chinatown, and his insensitive remarks, broke a long-standing taboo in Malaysia-China relations.
Today’s report that the acting Foreign Minister has reversed the decision to summon the Ambassador is utterly disgraceful and shows just how weak and indecisive the Najib Abdul Razak administration is. The signal it sends is that Malaysia can be pushed around without consequences. It is yet another shameless abrogation by the government of its responsibilities.
Contentious bilateral issues
In the arduous negotiations leading to the normalisation of bilateral relations in 1974, the most contentious issues involved China’s policy towards overseas Chinese, as they were then called.
China had always considered Chinese living abroad as overseas citizens with special rights and obligations. It was not the loyalty of Malaysian Chinese that was in question but China’s insistence in demanding their allegiance. The other issue was China’s support for the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM). Radio Suara Revolusi Malaya, the Voice of the Malayan People’s Revolution, was based in China.
It was only after these two contentious issues were satisfactorily resolved – with China agreeing to fully respect the sovereignty and independence of Malaysia – that full normalisation of relations could proceed and, subsequently, blossom.
Viewed against this historical background, Ambassador Huang’s visit to Petaling Street on the eve of another red shirt rally was an unprecedented breach of a solemn undertaking.
An unwarranted intrusion
His statement that China would “not sit idly by” over any “infringement on China’s national interests, violations of legal rights and interests of Chinese citizens and businesses which may damage the friendly relationship between China and the host country” was particularly astonishing.
What legitimate Chinese national interest was at stake in the Petaling Street issue? Which legal rights of Chinese citizens were violated by the proposed red shirt rally? How do tense race relations in Malaysia impinge on friendly relations with China, unless, of course, China still considers itself the overlord of all ethnic Chinese, whatever their citizenship?
No question that the behaviour of people like Jamal Yunos and Ali Tinju was utterly disgraceful. And shame on Prime Minster Najib Abdu Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi for not acting decisively against the red shirts and discharging their constitutional responsibility to protect and defend Malaysian citizens, irrespective of their ethnic background.
If only Najib or Zahid had taken a page from the Ambassador’s playbook and gone to Petaling Street to reassure the people there, perhaps it might not have come to this.
Nevertheless, none of the above justifies Ambassador Huang’s intervention. Besides, he should know that the struggle that is unfolding in Malaysia today is not about race – as the red-shirts want it to be – but about good governance, an end to endemic corruption and building a strong, united and democratic nation.
Huang’ visit, with all its racial connotations was, therefore, as unwelcome as it was unhelpful. I hope he has now noted the overwhelming rejection by Malaysian Chinese themselves of any involvement by Beijing in our domestic politics. It should underline the fact that China has absolutely no role to play in the evolution of our political system.
A dangerous precedent
China’s interference also carries with it the danger that others might feel similarly tempted to get involved in Malaysia’s evolving political situation. Imagine the Saudi Ambassador threatening unspecified consequences if hudud is rejected. Or the Indian ambassador mediating between the perpetually warring MIC factions. Or the Indonesian ambassador insisting that any criticism of Najib or Zahid, both of whom are of Indonesian origin, might negatively impact bilateral relations.
Unfortunately, some UMNO leaders themselves have set the precedent by claiming that a wealthy Arab ruler essentially paid Najib millions of dollars for “his anti-Jewish stance”. Is our foreign policy now for sale to the highest bidder? Are policies initiated to serve the national interest or merely to enrich a select few? If that doesn’t compromise our independence, what does?
Pressure tactics
More ominously, given the way China’s bureaucracy works, Ambassador Huang’s actions would almost certainly have been cleared at the highest levels of government in Beijing and might well signal a more assertive strategy towards Malaysia.
Could China now be trying to exploit Malaysia’s internal difficulties to advance its own interests? It is no secret, for example, that China has been unhappy with the Najib administration’s close military cooperation with the United States as well as the government’s support for the highly controversial American-inspired Trans-Pacific trade deal.
Seen from this perspective, China might well be warning Najib against too close a relationship with the US. Whatever it is, the threat about “not sitting idly by” is reminiscent of the kind of language that Beijing has used in the past to warn recalcitrant governments of tough action unless it gets its way.
To now hear a Chinese Ambassador use those words against Malaysia is nothing short of outrageous. It is cheap swagger, a crude bully attempt and completely unacceptable.
I suppose this is what happens when we have a weak, scandal-plagued government whose policies have divided the nation, weakened our economy, undermined our resilience and rendered us vulnerable to external interference.Wisma Putra’s backtracking on the summons just proves this point.
Is Wisma Putra up to the challenge?
I certainly hope Wisma Putra is fully awake to the challenges that China poses and is up to the task of managing relations with such an increasingly assertive neighbour. A prompt review of our relations with China would certainly be appropriate now. In the meantime, Ambassador Huang’s unacceptable behaviour requires a firm response: Wisma Putra, if it truly concerned about protecting our national interests, should request his prompt removal.

DENNIS IGNATIUS was a career foreign service officer who served in London, Beijing, Washington, Santiago, Buenos Aires and Ottawa. He retired as High Commissioner to Canada in 2008.
Although Dato Din surmised it well in his posts below.
MY COMMENT:
Din Merican7Yes, the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of a country isaccepted by all members of the United Nations. It is a cardinal principle embodied in the UN Charter. ASEAN members too must sign the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia which contains this non-interference clause, and so must its dialogue partners in the ASEAN Regional Forum.
But the world has changed since human rights violations in UN member countries have become common throughout the world where governments fail to protect their citizens; in stead they have committed untold cruelties including genocide against  their own people. Bosnia, Rwanda and  Cambodia  come to mind.
So today, the concept of Responsibility to Protect (R2P) is increasingly being talked about  as an alternative to dealing with  rouge regimes. This means that while it is the solemn  duty the State to prevent and halt genocide, ethnic cleansing and mass atrocities, the international community has a role that cannot be blocked by the invocation of sovereignty. Sovereignty no longer exclusively protects States from foreign interference; it is a charge of responsibility where States are accountable for the welfare of their people. This principle is enshrined in Article 1 of the Genocide Convention and embodied in the principle of “sovereignty as responsibility” and in the concept of R2P.
Of course, the present situation in Malaysia where the Malays in red shirts are given a free hand to threaten Malaysian Chinese  does warrant intervention from the international community under R2P.
I see no harm for an Ambassador to express his concern on behalf of his government  or in his personal capacity over ultra Malay extremism against the Chinese community which has been doing business in the Petaling Street area of Kuala Lumpur for generations. It is, in fact, is shameful that the MCA, Gerakan and Chinese business tycoons did not react but are complicit in this UMNO sponsored madness.
Ambassador Dato Ignatius is overreacting to Ambassador Huang’s comments. ‘The Chinese Ambassador, a seasoned diplomat, was a guest at the Moon Cake Festival function by businessmen and shopkeepers in Petaling Street. He was merely reminding the Najib Administration of the need to exercise caution and prudence.  Despite the unfortunate MH370 tragedy, Malaysia and China enjoys close and harmonious trade and investment relations for more than 30 years since Tun Abdul Razak established diplomatic relations with that country in 1974.
Wisma Putra is correct to reverse its decision to summon Ambassador Huang to protest ” his unwarranted interference in our domestic affairs”. Let us not make a mountain out of a molehill and allow our emotions to get the better of us.–Din Merican

PM Najib supporters undermine and sully their own Boss international reputation

Even an act of goodwill by a foreign envoy , in a visit to Petaling street. Which like many other things, can be viewed as a positive gesture of international relations of Malaysia.

UMNO decides to  twist it into yet another issue with a racist tinge-.if the statement from Umno Youth Exco member Armand Azha lashing out at China ambassador Dr Huang for supposedly interfering in the county’s administration.-is any indication.

Instead of  adopting a more reassuring conciliatory tone to address the concerns expressed by the ambassador- which in effect mirrors same sentiments of so many in the international community in Malaysia- and perhaps use the visit as  an opportunity to send a message to reassure the international community that things are not really as dire as it seems and that the Goverment has a handle on things..
It was an ideal platform they could have used to tone down the concerns or alarms of not only the international communities but the locals as well-

And instead----

The fools go on the offensive. And worsen things with a antagonistic stand.
Just look at what he said........

Quote "I would like to tell this Chinese ambassador, the ones who are disturbing the peace recently are the Chinese people who provoked and insulted not only the Malay Bumiputeras but also the Malay leadership.

"Because of their arrogance, they have raised the anger of most Malays," he said..unquote.
Everything nasty to say recently from UMNO is almost exclusively brickbats against the Chinese community .
And if there are those who still prefer extending "benefit of doubt" to PM Najib and how far he is willing to go....all the recent past actions and statements from Najib's supporters is soo revealing and removes what doubt the public may have that UMNO of PM Najib's camp is determined to play the racist card to the hilt..and collateral damage--country's reputation, financial stability, social harmony-etc .all be damned !

Note: What the heck makes them think the communist Goverment of China cares about the racial situation in Malaysia ?
They do not give 2 hoots about it unless it affects something they have vested interests in or it can be exploited to their advantage for whatever reason, and probably the Petaling street visit has some other message in the guise of a goodwill visit.

These stupid kampung under coconut shell mentality.
they undermine and sully the already maligned international reputation of this UMNO administration..led by PM Najib.

These idiots are threatening the very political survival of Najib and they don't even realise it..
Just proves beyond doubt how mindless and moronic sycophants can get..

And now they are so clever that they want more international negative press on Najib..easily achieved when they choose to aggravate a foreign ambassador.
.it's great press.

.Especially in light of the international spotlight being shined on PM Najib

.And his sycophantic boys take up arms against a foreign dignitary. ..Brilliant !

Can't wait for Sarawak Report ,NYT,WSJ  etc to do yet another  interesting write-up about PM Najib's administration and what is happening on his shift and what conclusions they arrive at..
Again it is going to make great read.

And lest it is forgotten, the MH370 issue is still alive and if the chinese want to play it up.
Najib's position and international stature gets more tenous.
.And by aggravating the Chinese....piss them off enough..who knows what they may accidentally reveal on what they know.

AN interesting observation from Dato Din Merican
.
Din Merican, a longtime academic and blogger now teaching at a university in Cambodia. “His racist rhetoric is raising international concerns since in a globalized world, there are many stakeholders. Najib must show that he can protect the interest of foreign investors who have stakes in Malaysia. Fanning the flames of racial hatred and Islamic bigotry is not an option for him. China is sending a message to Najib to stop going overboard with his racism.  The non-interference argument can no longer be used when human rights are being abused with impunity. The Red shirts are Najib’s paid proxies. The besieged Prime Minister is looking for a pretext to declare emergency rule to extend his political life. He knows that UMNO and Barisan Nasional will lose the general election in 2018 if he remains Prime Minister.

Here is to taking a piss at BN ,as the Brits will say..and having a go at some mischievous fun..while we struggle to keep pace with events unfolding and where we stand in the scheme of things..

Racism in Malaysia..Attempts by UMNO PM Najib's faction to stir-up the issue.

Even an act of goodwill by a foreign envoy ,
UMNO will twist it into yet another racist tinge.if the statement from Umno Youth Exco member Armand Azha lashing out at China ambassador Dr Huang for supposedly interfering in the county’s administration.-is any indication..

Playing with Fire

It's a very volatile dangerous game they are playing..because they may feel they have control but if even that is lost...they themselves who manipulated public emotions with the race card ,may risk their very own wealth ,positions.
Nobody can predict nor be fully in control if social unrests and racial confrontation flares up.
But the real true victim will be the multi-ethnic harmony and diversity built up post independence-that makes Malaysia uniquely stand out.

It's alarming to note that there exist powerful people who will not think twice on sacrificing all the above, for the sake of power preservation and maintaining  their status quo that is under siege.

At the expense of a country's fabric of social cohesiveness.
And they will not hestitate-in fact they are trying to do so now-that is to rip apart this fabric of social cohesiveness, stitch together by decades of intra community interactions in commerce ,in social gatherings,in academia, inter faith relations..on and on...
Positive events / things that can happen unique only in Malaysia.

Message to the nation screamed  from PM Najib's supporters post the Red Shirt demo and the
speech Najib himself made.

And if there are those who still prefer extending "benefit of doubt" to PM Najib and how far he is willing to go....
All the recent past actions and statements from Najib's supporters is so revealing and removes what doubt the public may have that UMNO of PM Najib's camp is determined to play the racist card to the hilt..

Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak has congratulated those who participated in a "peaceful" Malay solidarity rally in support of his administration.
Addressing thousands at an assembly for Malay martial art form silat on Friday (Sep 18), Mr Najib said the ethnic Malays of Malaysia should not be disrespected and that the Sep 16 demonstration was testament to this.
"We respect other ethnicities but don't forget Malays have our feelings too.
Malays too have rights," he told the crowd.
"Malays too can show that we can still rise up, rise up when our dignity is challenged; rise up when our leaders are insulted, ridiculed, embarrassed. Malays say enough, let no one repeat evil acts like that again"

click this video link below and observe PM Najib's body language and the intonation  as he makes the speech.

Even China is paying attention.to the racial events in the country

China's ambassador to Malaysia Dr Huang Huikang today visited Petaling Street and said the Chinese government was opposed to any form of terrorism, racism and extremism. – The Malaysian Insider file pic, September 25, 2015.

For what it is worth ,and it can be a lot...

Even the Chinese ambassador is concerned about what is anticipated.in lieu of the threats of rioting  that carries a racial tinge  at Petaling street.

Being a diplomat,wonder if , He knows something the public doesn't. ..
Confidential intelligence / Info privy to the diplomatic circle..that cannot be revealed ,bound by diplomatic obligations and responsibilities of confidentiality

But can be hinted by actions or gestures or very carefully and intentionally selectively worded suggestive statements .
.
China's ambassador to Malaysia Dr Huang Huikang today visited Petaling Street and warned those who used violence to disrupt public order in the country,

The Star reported. "He said the Chinese government was opposed to terrorism, extremism and any forms of discrimination based on race.
"The Chinese government opposes terrorism and any form of discrimination against races and any form of extremism," he was quoted as saying.

Dr Huang said he was confident that the police would ensure public order.
he said his embassy is aware of terrorist threat at Jalan Alor.

"We will monitor the situation closely," Dr Huang added.

My comments : Hmmmm,. This is certainly a first. This complicates things a little.

The Chinese government rarely speaks out of the corners of their mouth.
They usually say what they mean and mean what they say.

Undoubtedly the Ambassador would have received the approval of his government before venturing out to Petaling Street.

Note : Any country's Envoys usually make remarks on behalf of their Goverment and therefore  sends a message that it's their Govermental position,in their public statements..
There maybe and usually  a message behind a diplomat's public actions that is for interpretation.

For any country's envoys cannot simply make any actions ,gestures or statements or press releases if it is not approved or endorsed by their own  Goverment .

SO therefore, what the China ambassador said or did,in Malaysia , is a message of the un-official stance   of their Goverment or position of the Goverment of China regarding the attempts to tense up racial relations..

Hints He inferred :Try to read between the lines and formulate your own interpretation:

: The ambassador said it would be a shame if the peaceful environment at Petaling Street was disrupted by those with ill-intentions, adding that he was confident with the ability of the police to ensure public order.

"Business is good here. There are many tourists. I am proud to see Chinese traders working closely with Malay and Indian traders in harmony in developing this area," he was quoted as saying.

Addressing the terrorist threat at Jalan Alor, Dr Huang said that the embassy was aware of this development and was keeping a close eye on the situation.

There has been warnings that protesters will turn up again in Chinatown tomorrow,  Sep. 26th Sat, to demand the authorities raid the traders who he alleged were involved in selling fake goods and running other illegal businesses.

Here are some noteworthy facts and figures on China -Malaysia relations and what is at stake...

Malaysia is China's largest trading partner in South East Asia.

Plus we are among the Top 20 trading nations in the world.

There are more serious people who work hard to contribute towards making Malaysia among the Top 20 trading nations in the world.
There are more serious people who have made our country China's largest trading partner in South East Asia.

There are more serious people who have created a GDP in excess of US$500 Billion.

And it is a terrifying thought that there may those who are wiiling to jeopardize all these  and regress the  nation into poverty ,  just for their own selfish nefarious reasons..!

Something has to give and to  go.
Dr Mahathir says it plainly here.

To the Police, just arrest all these trouble causers.
Put them in the lock up and charge them in Court.
If you dont do your job, this is what happens.

US Embassy has issued terrorist advisory,
The US embassy in Malaysia warned American citizens yesterday to avoid a popular tourist street in the capital Kuala Lumpur because of "credible threat information regarding a potential terrorist act".
The embassy website issued the security warning for Jalan Alor, a street in the popular tourist distict of Bukit Bintang, and the immediate surrounding areas.
Police officials could not immediately be reached for comment. However, local media said police had increased patrols in Jalan Alor and surrounding areas.

Chinese Ambassador  is expressing concerns, -

Where is the country being steered towards by those in Charge?..

PM Najib racism tactic

Before playing the video-mull on the banner and the message.
Then ask whether if these demonstrators even know whats going on in the country and scandals of the current Goverment? Or do they even care !

Being Racist ? Politicians, some have personal lines of principles,Just depends on how far or how low they will draw the line. There are decent ones and more often than not , the other extreme, without ethics.

The race card to PM  Najib  is just means to an end…another tool in a politician's  arsenal of unethical , unscrupulous ,unprincipled political manuevering.tactics.
And if being racist serves his purpose-then so be it- but then he can just as easily change his colours into a champion of multi-culturalism if it were to be flavour of the month..Clueless as to what consistent principles are..
And the red shirt rally proves that he has lost the moral mandate to lead a nation supposed to be built on moderation and multi culturalism..
He does not act like a PM of the whole country for all communities but seem to be merely PM for just a select narrow ethnic group even within his own political organization.

After the Prime Minister ditched moderation in his leadership by supporting the racially charged ‘Malay Red Rally’ last Wednesday, he can kiss goodbye to his Global Movement of Moderates.

Former Umno deputy minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah who is CEO of the Global Movement of Moderates Foundation told reporters that Umno must take a stand against division chiefs who had come out with controversial statements during the rally
He narrowed in on Kota Bharu Umno division chief Datuk Mohd Fatmi Che Salleh, Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Jamal Md Yunos and Ketereh Umno chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
In the run-up to the "red shirt" rally, Fatmi had made a fiery speech and led a group of Umno members as they burned effigies of DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang and of DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
Jamal had challenged former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to prove his Malayness by attending the "red shirt" rally, while Annuar had said that he was a racist in accordance with Islam. "Make a stand, otherwise you are sending mixed signals to the public," said Saifuddin, adding that he did not agree with the leaders' statements.

No wonder a DAP  MP has called the Prime Minister a hypocrite

Evn factions in UMNO now seem to be using the Red shirt rally and the inflammatory racist theme as excuse to distance themselves.

-ultras-racists-not-welcome-says-cm malacca

Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin agrees with Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in calling for all forms of racial provocation to be stopped.
Khairy said the movement did not wish to see any racial discord or other problems affecting racial ties.
"Of course, any form of provocation must not be condoned. This is our stand,

On Friday, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin warned politicians against using the race card to promote their own agenda as it would create anxiety among the people.
The former deputy prime minister hit out at certain narrow-minded politicians, accusing them of "trying to be heroes in their own community."
Muhyiddin said racial harmony in Malaysia should not be treated lightly as it could lead to mistrust among the people.

On a separate matter, Khairy said Umno Youth would not stop its members from taking part in any rallies or activities as long as they adhered to the law.
"If it is proven they have broken the law, action needs to be taken against them.
We would not protect any members who have committed wrongdoings," he said.
Khairy said members who had taken part in the red shirt rally along Petaling Street and resorted to making provocative acts were no exception.
"Let the police investigate the matter," he said.

Umno Iron lady  veteran Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz has spoken out against racist invectives spewed at the “red shirt” rally in Kuala Lumpur on Malaysia Day, even as some of her party colleagues have tried to defend the gathering.
Rafidah took to Facebook again to stress that Malaysians of all ethnicities should not have to suffer prejudice as the ancestors of all communities, were migrants from other parts of the world.
“I felt sad for my many non-Malay, especially Chinese friends, many from my primary school days, when I saw videos and photos berating the Chinese community.
“We all have friends of ALL races and creed. We feel for them, especially when, just like us, they are trying to make a life for themselves and their families in THEIR COUNTRY... MALAYSIA,” Rafidah wrote in her Facebook posting -

.Justifiable in a way,for it sure seem to be political suicide to be associated with such extreme racial logic displayed, particularly when UMNO has maintained that it is leader of a multi ethnic coalition of political parties of BN.
